While they could be written off as a nice decorative touch, these spikes do serve a more... gruesome purpose. Similar to barbed wire, these spikes were designed to deter gentlemen callers away from climbing over the balcony to visit homeowners’ daughters. Hence the name, Romeo Spikes.
